The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee on Tuesday rejected the Supreme Court's proposal for the formation of a committee on the farm laws. Earlier in the day, a bench of the SC headed by CJI SA Bobde stayed the implementation of the three new farm laws till further orders.

In a press statement, The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee said January 12 marked the 49th day of the protests at Delhi's Singhu and Kundli borders. On Tuesday, a large gathering of agitating farmers demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Punjab unit president of The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Satnam Singh Pannu and senior vice president Sawinder Singh Chatala told protesting farmers that PM Modi should resign for failing to handle the farmers' movement properly. Citing the SC's harsh remarks over the Centre's handling of the deadlock, the farmer leaders said that the Prime Minister should apologize to the farmers of the country.

In addition, The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee leaders demanded immediate cancellation of criminal cases against 71 farmer leaders and 900 farmers filed by the Haryana government. Preparations for the January 26 tractor parade are underway in full swing in various villages of Punjab and the country, the farmer leaders claimed.

The Centre has appealed to the Supreme Court to issue orders preventing agitating farmers from taking out a tractor rally on Republic Day.

During their address to the media, leaders of The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee said the Centre would be responsible for any confrontation in the future since the farmers' movement has been going on peacefully from day one and will continue to be peaceful. A caravan of 10,000 farmers, labourers and women will begin their march to Delhi from the Golden Gate of Amritsar today, they added.
