MoS MEA Meenakshi Lekhi has said, “The Opposition especially members of TMC & Congress will stoop so low as to while being political opponents, they'll do things to damage country's reputation. Today in the House one of the members snatched papers from the Minister who was making a statement.”

“This sort of behaviour is something which democracy has never seen, and we have seen earlier how they conducted themselves when PM was addressing and introducing the new ministers in the Parliament,” she added.

As Ashwini Vaishnaw rose to read his statement on the Pegasus controversy, TMC MP Santanu Sen snatched the statement from Vaishnaw’s hands, tore it and threw the pieces in the air, creating ruckus in the Rajya Sabha. The Upper House has now been adjourned till tomorrow amid uproar in the House by the Opposition MPs which began as soon as Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw rose to speak on 'Pegasus Project' media report.

The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 11 am tomorrow (Friday).

In Rajya Sabha, Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw laid down his statement on the Pegasus issue amid ruckus by the Opposition. "All concerned parties have already denied such reports and I request all the members to go through the detail report," he said.

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned on Thursday following sloganeering by opposition members protesting over a range of issues, including the Pegasus row. As soon as the House convened for the day, the Question Hour was taken up. But some opposition members started raising slogans. Speaker Om Birla repeatedly urged the protesting members to go back to their respective seats and said he was ready to give adequate time to discuss the issues raised by them. He said people have elected them to Parliament to raise their issues and that sloganeering was not right. However, the members did not relent and continued their protest. Barely 15 minutes after the House convened for the day, it was adjourned till 12 pm.

Amid uproar, the Government has introduced bills in the Lok Sabha

1. Bills related to the Inland Vessels Bill, 2021: A Bill to promote economical and safe transportation and trade through inland waters, to bring
uniformity in application of law relating to inland waterways and navigation within the country, to provide for safety of navigation, protection of life and cargo, and prevention of pollution that may be caused by the use or navigation of inland vessels, to ensure transparency and accountability of administration of inland water transportation, to strengthen procedures governing the inland vessels, their construction, survey,
registration, manning, navigation and such other matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

2. Bills related to providing for the maintenance of essential defence services to secure the nation and the life and property of public at large and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
