Solar Eclipse 2021: Ring of Fire Eclipse leave stargazers spellbound

The annular solar eclipse was witnessed in several parts of the world on Thursday as the Moon, Earth and the Sun aligned together to form a celestial event. The June 10 solar eclipse was rare as it witnessed the occurrence of a ring of fire around the Moon, visible in parts of Canada and Siberia.

During a solar eclipse, the Moon casts a shadow on the Earth, creating a visual phenomenon as it moves between the Earth and the Sun, blocking sunlight. As the Moon covers the centre of the Sun, the edges emit a glowing halo creating an illuminated 'ring of fire'. The June 10 solar eclipse was visible to stargazers in several countries.

While the celestial phenomenon was visible only in extreme parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh for barely a few minutes, India could watch the streaming of the eclipse on these platforms. The live stream of the eclipse was made by Time and Date.

The eclipse began at 1.42 pm IST and lasted till 6.41 pm IST in several parts of the world.

The rare cosmic development was seen in the vast region of North America, Europe and Asia. The ring of fire was visible from parts of Greenland, North-Eastern Canada, the North Pole and some parts of Russia. In Canada, it was seen for about three minutes, while in Greenland it occurred when the solar eclipse reached its peak, following which it was visible in Siberia and the North Pole.
