4 killed, 24 injured after bus with pilgrims on board catches fire in J&K’s Katra

As many as two people were killed and 24 others were injured after a bus with pilgrims on board caught fire in Jammu and Kashmir’s Katra on Friday, May 13.

The bus was on its way to Jammu from Katra when it caught fire near Kharmal, located about 1.5 km from Katra.

As per preliminary investigation, the blaze started from engine area which soon engulfed the whole bus.

Two persons died on the spot. The injured people were shifted to Katra for treatment.

Condoling the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “Extremely pained by the loss of lives in the tragic bus incident in Katra. I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. Directed district administration to ensure best possible treatment to the injured.”

Following the bus mishap, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that he has spoken to Deputy Commissioner, Reasi (J&K), Babila Rakhwal about the incident. He assured that all help will be provided to the injured.
