IndiGo pilots vent about low salaries on emergency radio line, regulator orders probe
A probe has been launched against seven IndiGo pilots who were allegedly found venting about low salaries on a frequency used for emergency communications.
Seven IndiGo pilots landed in soup after they were allegedly found venting about low salaries on the emergency radio line on April 9, sources said on Thursday.
A probe has been launched into the matter by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). However, IndiGo hasn't issued any statement on the matter so far.
These pilots allegedly used offensive language over salary issues on the 121.5 MHz frequency, which is used for emergency communications only for aircraft in distress.
The airline had cut the salaries of its pilots by as much as 30 per cent during the peak of the pandemic. IndiGo had recently suspended a few pilots for allegedly planning to hold a strike on April 5 against the pay cuts.
However, on April 1, IndiGo announced increasing the pilots' salaries by 8 per cent and said that another 6.5 per cent hike will be implemented in November, in case there are no disruptions.
