Goa CM's remarks on gang rape of minor girls sparks row

The rape case in Goa's Quepem comes amid the controversy over Goa chief minister's remarks on the gang rape of two minor girls in the state on Sunday.

Days after two minor girls were gangraped on Benaulim beach in Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said in the state Assembly that parents need to introspect about why their daughters were 'out late' at night.

On Wednesday, during a debate on a calling attention notice in the House, Pramod Sawant said, “When 14-year-olds stay on the beach the whole night, the parents need to introspect. Just because children don’t listen, we cannot put the responsibility on the government and police.

The chief minister, who also holds the home portfolio, said parents have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their children and hinted that they should not allow their children, particularly minors, to go out at night.
